The first Dirt Cheap opened in January 1993 at Highway 30 and Valley Dell in Fenton. It was one third the size of our present store at that location. Fred was the original and first employee and worked alone for awhile. Soon he was joined by Stacey, Linda and Janet; and then by many more Dirt Cheap partners who serve you in all our stores. Later that same year we opened stores at Telegraph and Forder and at Dunn Road and Bellefontaine. We were off and running!

However, the story of Dirt Cheap is not our story - it is your story. From the beginning you, our wonderful customers have told us what to do, what you wanted. You told us you wanted us to uphold the individual rights and freedoms of smokers - hence our phrase "We are the last refuge of the persecuted smoker." You told us you wanted a large variety of products at very competitive prices while having a fun shopping experience - hence our phrase "Cheap, Cheap, Fun, Fun."! You have made us successful. You have been so very good to us - which is why we say "Thank you! We are grateful for your business - Be careful out there."
